形态特征（Description）：常绿小乔木或灌木，高3-10米，很少达13米；小枝圆柱状，有直纹，仅嫩部被短柔毛，皮孔多而密，黄白色。叶连柄长15-35厘米；小叶2或3对，很少4对，近对生。薄革质，长圆状披针形至披针状卵形，长8-18厘米，宽2.5-7.5厘米，顶端骤尖，钝头，基部阔楔形至近圆钝，两面无毛或背面侧脉腋内的腺孔上被毛；侧脉7-10对，斜升，至近叶缘处弯拱上行，仅在背面凸起；小叶柄长不及1厘米。花序常紧密多花，比叶短，很少长于叶，被锈色短绒毛；花芳香，梗长1-2毫米；萼裂片长约1毫米，被柔毛；花瓣5，与萼近等长，鳞片被长柔毛；花盘浅裂；雄蕊通常8，花丝长短不齐，约3-4毫米；子房被紧贴柔毛。蒴果的发育果爿椭圆形，长1-1.5厘米，宽7-9毫米，红色或橙黄色；种子枣红色，假种皮透明。花期夏初，果期秋季。
分布（Distribution）：产云南、广西、广东、海南，生低海拔地区的林中或灌丛中。广布于亚洲东南部，向南至伊里安岛。
用途（Use）：木材坚韧，可制农具。

Leaves with petiole 15-35 cm; leaflets 2 or 3(or 4) pairs, subopposite; petiolules less than 1 cm; blades oblong-lanceolate to lanceolate-ovate, 8-18 × 2.5-7.5 cm, thinly leathery, abaxially glabrous or hairy at vein axils, lateral veins 7-10 pairs, nearly ascending to margin and arched upward, prominent abaxially, base broadly cuneate to
nearly obtuse, apex cuspidate and mucronate. Inflorescences compact, multiflowered, shorter than leaves, rarely longer than leaves, ferruginous tomentose. Flowers fragrant. Pedicels 1-2 mm. Sepals ca. 1 mm, pilose. Petals 5, nearly as long as calyx; scales villous. Disk lobed. Stamens often 8; filaments unequal in length, 3-4 mm. Ovary appressed pilose. Fertile schizocarps red or orange, ellipsoid, 1-1.5 cm × 7-9 mm. Seeds dark red, arillode pellucid. Fl. early summer, fr. autumn.
